Bhaskar > A typical South Indian wedding ceremony. The Fire is the ultimate and sacred Witness to the marriage. The long pipe is called the 'Naathaswaram' and the cylindercial drum is called 'Maelum'. Akin to the Angels playing music and clapping hands/ thunder blessing the wedding. The 'Brahmin Priest', on the right, presides over the wedding and acts as the conduit to the Gods. He chants prayers and explains the meaning and signifiance to the couple. It involves the couple, especially the bride-groom taking muliple oaths and giving numerous assurances to the girl's family about his commitment to the marriage. There is also a 'funny part' before this where the groom re-thinks his views on life and heads towards 'Sanyasa', to become an ascetic. The bride's father convinces him otherwise, talking about the merits of marriage and praising the qualities of women, especially his daughter. Hmm.. Now, what do you think the father actually 'tells' the guy ;-)
Bhaskar > Mahalakshmi Darbar! The court of Lakshmi, the bride of Vishnu. Lakshmi is the Goddess of prosperity. Here, she is in her most powerful avatar, as Mahalakshmi, who epotomizes the oneness of all her other forms.. She has eight other forms and also appears as 'Ashta Lakshmi'..
Bhaskar > This step is one that focusses on knowledge at its ultimate form and translating into Bhakthi/ universal love. On the left one has Shiva, who represents the totality of all knowledge teaching to the various generations of Shankar-Acharyas, Shiva's saints. The tradition of these saints is similar to that of the Dalai Lama's where each one chooses the next. At present, there are three such saints, the oldest over a 100 years old and the youngest in his 30s in the ashram at Kanchipuram, the city famous for its temples and Silk sarees..

Bhaskar > Saraswati, the Goddess of Knowledge; Vinayaga/ Pilliar; Lakshmi, the Goddess of Prosperity
Bhaskar > Rama and Sita at the middle. Thats' an epic there. The person on Sita's left, with the tambura, is called Narada. He is the mischeivuos saint who causes lots of fun in all the Hindu epics and myths. Narada is the one who talks about the 'supposed favoritism' to Muruga causing him to fly away. A very interesting character.
